Tradition since 1843

In 1843, Gottlieb Heinrich Ludwig Lorberg laid the foundation in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg for the long and successful history of the Lorberg Tree Nursery.

 After the initial years, in 1874, the first trees and shrubs were planted for cultivation in Biesenthal in the northern part of Berlin. The Lorberg family lost its property after the Second World War as a result of dispossession and moved to West Berlin. In 1950, the new Lorberg tree nursery was established in Lichtenrade in the south of the city. Because space was at a premium there, parts of the cultivation were moved to Lower Saxony.

The political transformation in 1990 offered the unique opportunity for the repeated relocation of the company to a new site outside the city of Berlin. A continuous tract of land of 568 acres in Tremmen formed the basis for the modernisation of the company. 

Today the family-owned company with its cultivation area of more than 1483 acres is among the largest tree nurseries in Europe.

On four sites we cultivate a broad range of high-quality trees and shrubs, taking state-of-the art ecology into account. Plants from the Lorberg tree nursery highlight projects of renowned architects in many countries in Europe and bear witness to the expertise and creativity of the Lorberg employees.
